Saint Petersburg's prime cultural attraction, The State Hermitage Museum houses a collection of over 3 million artworks from around the globe. The massive palace-museum, once the official residence of Russian emperors, provides an elegant setting for priceless works by Rubens, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Goya, Degas, and many more. Founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and open to the public since the 1850s, the museum displays only a small portion of its collection of paintings, the largest in the world. • You need time to see this museum! Interesting! I was impressed by the Peacock Watch, which was created in the EIGHTEENTH century and still works.

  • Huge, enormous and fabulous palace where is located the very famous museum. Wow, colors and style are amazing! Large art collections, make sure to visit it on low season or low days because it could be incredibly crowded. Museum staff is not so nice :( >>> Be sure to buy a ticket where you can visit the "General Staff Building" art exhibitions, they have the most amazing impressionism art collection i have ever saw!
  • Great museum hosted in a wonderful and huge building/ palace, where you can find some of the best art workpieces of Russian and European art. You can spend a whole day admiring all the rooms and paintings in the museum. It is usually too crowded, so they should limit the number of visitors.
