Gain an appreciation of the history of Russia's military weaponry at Military Historical Artillery Museum. Peter the Great opened the museum in 1703 with an exhibit of a cannon cast by Andrei Chokhov, a renowned cannon and bell caster during the reign of Ivan the Terrible. The museum boasts a collection ranging from the 15th century to the present, with weapons, armor, and military uniforms from Russia and Europe. Keep your eye out for the personal effects and arms of Russian emperors, Napoleon’s personal arms used during his disastrous invasion of Russia, and a gallery devoted to the AK-47 and its designer. The museum contains very little information in English. Use our St. Petersburg journey planner to add Military Historical Artillery Museum and other attractions to your St. Petersburg vacation plans.

  • Note that the outside part of the museum is free. Great collection of Artillery. No information in English, but just interesting and impressive to walk around. I haven't been inside.
  • Real tanks! Real Guns! A Katusha! The complete russian history of weaponry can be found there. I found it really amazing to look at all this machinery to have a better picture of the warfare back then. Amazing history! I also saw little kids putting a AK together (its a sort of 'tiny' workshop). Amazing xD
