Grand Maket Russia, St. Petersburg

Boasting one of the largest railway models in Europe, Grand Maket Russia features a three-dimensional layout with mountains, lakes, forests, rivers, and small towns. Hundreds of modelers and artists worked on this display, opened in 2012 with the aim of introducing visitors to the country's diverse communities and lifestyles. The layout contains street scenes depicting modern Russia, with functioning factories, flying helicopters, moving cars, and lifelike figures of people and animals. The museum's two-level railroad links the entire setup, with automatic changes from day to night and back giving the representation an added feeling of reality.
