The National Museum of Art of Romania, Bucharest

4.3
At The National Museum of Art of Romania, discover Romanian medieval and modern art, as well as works by European masters like Rembrandt, Rubens, Brueghel, and El Greco. A former royal residence, originally built by a wealthy trader in 1812, houses the collection of national and European art dating from the 15th to the 20th centuries. The museum exhibits over 100,000 works including medieval icons, illustrated manuscripts, carved altars, and fragments of wall painting, as well as works by famous 20th-century artists. See an early Brancusi sculpture and lesser-known art pieces by Monet, Renoir, and Cezanne. The museum has opened up its throne room and occasionally organizes guided tours through the former imperial living quarters. • Unfortunately, we haven't had much time to visit this museum in detail. We will return in the future to visit you conveniently. The building alone is worth a visit. It is the Royal palace, construction begun in 1837, of unpaired exterior beauty. It is centrally located on Victoriei Avenue, right in front of the Revolution Square. If you do not have time to visit this museum, at least admire the beautiful exterior façade facing Victoriei Avenue, from which to attach photographs.

  • So worth the visit. I saw both the European and Romanian galleries! Beautiful collections of sculptures, paintings, and religious icons. I spent three hours but I could have easily spent two more hours. Romania is amazing and has a lot to offer.
  • Wonderful museum. You'll see so much Romanian art that you'll walk out an expert. The European gallery was more limited and consisted mostly of Renaissance and Dutch work. Fantastic way to spend a morning in Bucharest.
