Praia da ursa, Sintra

#1 of 6 in Beaches in Sintra
View a beach of spectacular natural beauty at Praia da ursa, where thousands of years of the Atlantic's wind and waves have carved the rocks and cliffs into interesting shapes, including a huge stone in the form of a bear. Located in the Natural Park of Sintra, this piece of shoreline--Europe's westernmost beach--can be difficult to access due to the steep, rocky hill leading down to it. Once at the bottom, explore the sandy shore and blue, albeit cold, waters. Nudists favor this attraction for its hard-to-reach location. Consider delaying your visit if the weather is rainy, because the climb becomes too slippery to travel here safely. • This is a beautiful beach area. This is a long beach. You can spend hours here in the evenings. Lots of cafes and restaurants along the road.  more »
  • Fear))) The first thing you experience when approaching the beginning of the descent path (the car will not pass). But, believe me, it is worth a little work on the descent to get a challenging emotion... The best time to visit is closer to sunset. It's fantastically beautiful!

  • Breathtaking and stunning. The two most apt words to describe this beach. Be wary that the way down and up is VERY treacherous, especially after rainy days or during winter since the soil might be muddy and there are no rails in place, requiring actual climbing. If you are up for it however you can experience a rare, rare sight in Portugal: an unclaimed and mostly wild beach.
  • What to expect: - A quick, steep but easy hike down a cliff is the only way to reach the beach easily - Clean beach with view of several rocks standing upright in the water What NOT to expect - A long and wide beach - Visiting when the daylight is fading - An empty beach(unless it's wee hours)
