Pico Ruivo is the highest peak on the Madeira Islands. It can be reached only by foot, usually either from Pico do Arieiro (3rd highest) after a strenuous hike, or from Achada do Teixeira with a shorter, easier trail. There is an additional trail leading west to Encumeada. Just below the summit is a hut offering simple accommodation and drinks.Plan my Madeira Islands trip by asking Inpirock to come up with tips and suggestions.
Pico Ruivo is 1861m high and provides some of the most incredible views of the island from coast to coast, but unpredictable weather conditions can make it quite dangerous.

The worst being the "refuge" 500 m from the pico ruivo, toilets broken down, no water, but lukewarm soda without glass for 4 euros a can! Inadmissible, especially in Madeira where even at the beach no drink costs more than 1.50. On the other hand the view is sublime and worth a visit, just think about taking a lot of water with you.
This isn’t pico Ruivo on street view. The radar tower you see is on pico do areeiro
