Celebrate Portugal's rich history of exploration at Padrao dos Descobrimentos, which was built to commemorate Prince Henry the Navigator and the Age of Discovery during the 15th and 16th centuries. Architect José Angelo Cottinelli Telmo and sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida created the original statue for the 1940 Portuguese World Fair. It was later destroyed but then rebuilt in 1958 by the government. Note the monument's square with its marble compass rose, which was a gift from South Africa. • Monument between the Jeronimos monastery and the Torre de Belém, tells history, it is worth knowing. Crowded with tourists!

  • Beautiful place, of a sensation, that we stopped to think, that the vessels left all of them to discover the new world. Sensational.

  • This is an incredible monument encompassing all the historical Portuguese Explorers. They are ascending the statue like they are climbing to the stars. From all angles, it is eye-catching. You can stand literally for long periods engrossed in its details. This was well worth seeing. Itis one of the best statues I've seen depicting the progression of history.
  • Amazing views of Lisbon and the suspension bridge. If you come at the end of the day, you can catch an amazing sun set too. Lovely vibe and one of Lisbon's nicest view points of the coast and suspension bridge. You can also go up the monument, however, there's plenty more to do and see outside.
