Trip Planner: Europe / Portugal / Central Portugal / Lisbon District / Lisbon / National Museum of Ancient Art
The vast collection of art housed at National Museum of Ancient Art includes paintings, sculptures, textiles, furniture, drawings, and other decorative arts created between the 15th and 19th centuries. Housed inside a lemon-colored palace from the 17th century, the museum remains one of city's major draws, presenting the evolution of European and Asian art through the ages. Pay special attention to the large panels depicting members of medieval Portuguese society paying respects to St. Vincent, the patron saint of Lisbon. This work, attributed to artist Nuno Goncalves, represents one of the first collective portraits in European art. Other museum highlights include masterpieces by Durer, Bosch, Cranach, Raphael, Tintoretto, and Velazquez. Allow a lot of time to see this museum as its collection is extensive and diverse. It is well-planned and lay out easy to navigate, with a fabulous cafe and gift shop. A must in my opinion! more »
Это действительно музей искусства, но не совсем древнего. Красивейшая мебель, резные вертепы и иконостасы из португальских церквей, ковры, керамика, посуда, ну и, на удивление, огромная коллекция отли... more »It really is an art museum, but not quite ancient. Beautiful furniture, carved nativity scenes and iconostases from Portuguese churches, carpets, ceramics, utensils, and, surprisingly, a huge collection of excellent European painting. We went to the museum for a full 2 hours, full of buzz. It is definitely recommended to visit!
Absolutely fantastic. .. 5 stars. Amazing. Fantastic. Wonderful.. We were there all day long. Love it...
A lot better than expected. So glad we visited. We paid extra for the temporary exhibitions. Staff was friendly and helpful. Had a delicious Portuguese lunch in the restaurant.
