Climb a long monumental stairway to reach Bom Jesus do Monte, a sanctuary and a Catholic place of pilgrimage, nestled on a hilltop above the city. Completed in 1811, the church features ornaments and decoration influenced by styles of different monuments in Portugal and colonial Brazil. The zigzag-shaped stairs contain Baroque-style dark granite and white plaster, whereas the rest of the site features neoclassical elements, sculptures, fountains, and ornamental gardens. You can also visit several chapels, which melt into the greenery of the place. Don't miss the chance to snap some photos of the area below from one of the panoramic overlooks. Bom Jesus do Monte Reviews
One of must see church in Braga, Portugal. It’s hard to fine but don’t give up. The picture doesn’t do justice. You must see it live and take the stairs all the way down and look up from the bottom. A... more »

Tap down the 590 steps and take the funicular back up (two minutes just for one euro and fifty, every half hour) to make some discreet photos.
Beautiful church and amazing city view from the top of the mountain. Great exercise going up those never ending stairs but well worth the view you'll be greeted with once you reach the top. Beautiful gardens to walk and even a small pond you can row around a bit. Great to spend the day exploring the many hidden places in the mountain you can enjoy the view without being bothered with other people.
The most impressive baroque stairs that I've ever visited and studied. That's such a matter piece of architecture and the place has a magic atmosphere. It's free entrance but it's on top of a hill. If you don't want upstairs you can also climb the hill using a funicular but I do recommend upstairs cause it was well designed and you also will enjoy all water fonts on the way up. The church is beautiful and there's also two hotels and a cafe on top. Behind the church there's a park where you also can walk around. That's the best attraction in Braga!
