Must see · Garden · Nature / Park
Home to an extensive collection of Buddhas, statues, and other Asian-inspired artwork, Bacalhoa Buddha Eden is the largest Oriental complex of its kind in Europe. Founded in 2001 as a reaction to the Taliban's destruction of the famous Banyan Buddhas in Afghanistan, the garden has endeavored to preserve their memory. Wander the 35 hectares (86 acres) of green space with ponds, fountains, and pagodas, and try to get in touch with the area's mission of peace and understanding. You certainly won't miss the gigantic reclining Buddha statue designed to resemble those at Banyan, or the 2,200 individual replicas of China's famous Terra Cotta soldiers. Be sure to stop by the on-site wine store for a chance to sample one of Portugal's most famous exports, produced by a local company. PutBacalhoa Buddha Eden into our Bombarral trip itinerary planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Amazing park with interesting design, different dedicated to African and Asian cultures. Fantastic sculptures and monuments. Lovely ponds. A place to relax, contemplate and enjoy beautiful views. Everything very well organized and clean. It's easy to see that that place is getting treated with love by the owners.
  • Such a peaceful place. You can do a lot of soul searching and find yourself here. Was here 7 years ago many new attractions since than. Good thing about it is the mini bars that pop up around a random corner. Great place to spend an afternoon. You'll need 3-4 hours to view it all. Highly recommend it.
