  • As you drive up the hill to see Monte Brasil you will see a Fayard at the entrance to the fort. We asked if we could have a tour and were told a guide would be available at two o’clock. We came back.....  more »
  • It was in the military compound, and we did not go in because there were soldiers anywhere). I think you can go in and they would offer you a tour (time maybe limited). Nice walk to the top.  more »
  • Fort is at the foot of a mountain called Brazil. In general, they wanted to name the whole island Brazil, but changed their mind, and the name was used for another country. The Spaniards, when they captured the island, expanded the fortress to go around the mountain. The military unit located there is still active today. It is considered to be the oldest in Europe. There is a nature reserve on the mountain itself. There deer live (brought in). We haven't seen the deers themselves, but there is enough manure around.
  • Definitely worth a visit. Tours are made every hour, and also on Sundays. Someone of the military staff will guide you around, but doesn't speak English very well.
