The National Museum in Warsaw, Warsaw

#9 of 62 in Museums in Warsaw
At The National Museum in Warsaw, see the largest Polish painting, "Battle of Grunwald" by Jan Matejko, and the largest European collection of artifacts of the Nubian culture. The museum features about 830,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, illustrations, photographs, numismatic items, and objects of applied arts. Do not miss the medieval art collection, including intricate altarpieces and painted wooden statues from all over Poland. Look for the paintings reclaimed after being stolen during World War II, such as "Jewish Woman Selling Oranges" and "Black Woman." Rest in a cafe or on one of the benches of an inside courtyard with a fountain. A park behind the building once served as prince's gardens. • Yesterday I was not admitted to the museum, because in my hand I kept a thin jacket. At that time, hundreds of people were admitted in the jackets. Why, because others founded them on each other. Here is the logic of this place. The word "regulations" treated by personnel freely and obscure man. Great profession. Two hours of waiting for a meeting with someone from the directorate and the conversation, was a waste of time. I was not interested in this situation, I and my problems. Please write a complaint-I heard it repeatedly. Nobody wanted to talk substantive and solve the problem on the spot. It is unpleasant how a public institution serves to hold employees, mainly the same.

  • Great museum! It is a huge building with lots of stairs. Lots of art, rooms and things to see. All very nicely displayed and easy to see. Highly recommend for tourists that aren't native to Poland. Think it's great if you're from Poland too.
  • Loved it.. such a beautiful museum with an amazing repertoire of diverse artists. I just do not understand why they force you to leave the jacket upfront. Nevertheless, the exposition is very interesting..pretty dark art of the war time but very interesting.
