Jewish Cemetery (Cmentarz Zydowski), Warsaw

See one of the largest cemeteries in Europe, Jewish Cemetery (Cmentarz Zydowski), covering 33 hectares (83 acres) with pathways that cut through the trees and gravestones. Walk through the cemetery's sections and read the inscriptions using these pathways so as not to disurb the grave sites, and to avoid getting caught in the brush. Much of the cemetery has become overgrown, with headstones that have fallen over because there is no family to care for them. However, it remains a sacred place and many visit to remember the Jewish people of Warsaw who lost their lives in World War II. A small section of the burial grounds still serves the remaining Jewish inhabitants of Warsaw. • Huge place with some very exquisite tombstones & cripts. Countless still ruddled with bullet holes for the second World War. Many have been taken over by the plant life or simply crumbled through time. Its a shame more money is not put in for the foundations to repair quicker. Also a shame where some trees have been cut down and fallen on gravestones. Very saddening sight
