The Leaning Tower of Toruń is a medieval tower in Toruń, Poland. It is known as a leaning tower because the top of the tower is displaced from where it would be if the tower were perfectly vertical. Located on Pod Krzywa Wieza street, it is one of the most important landmarks in Toruń's Old Town.HistoryThe Leaning Tower of Toruń was built in the 13th century in order to defend the town. It was built of red brick. It started leaning because it was built on loamy ground. In the 18th century it ceased to be used for defensive purposes. The tower was then converted into a women's prison. In the 19th century, it housed a blacksmith's shop and an apartment for a gunsmith. At this time, the Gothic tented roof was replaced by a pitched roof. A souvenir shop and a café used to be located in the tower in the 1970s and 80s, and now it houses the Toruń Cultural Department and a café, Krzywa Caffe.

  • You have to stand with a sloped wall leaning the heel to the wall and try to maintain a vertical stance. If it succeeds-you're the ' right man ':) Great fun-all the tourists so they do so you can laugh. And by the way, buy A souvenir from the shop inside:)

  • A lot of people, they take pictures, actually can not be found on the wall. A curiosity on the way along the walls, you can drink next to the coffee on the air in the garden, buy a souvenir, etc. Attraction like most in Toruń

  • What a marvellous experience! For the ridiculously low price of 5 złoty, you get to actually touch and hold a wide array of medieval weaponry. Swords, axes, halberds, spears, shields... I was even able to put on a proper iron helmet. In addition, the man on site was able to demonstrate how one was supposed to fight with the different weapons. He showed off the different techniques and skills with practiced ease, and it was clear to see he was very knowledgeable and passionate about his work. And for the fairer sex, they also have a lovely exhibit of clothing from the Middle Ages. Definitely worth visiting!
  • On our travels from Poznan to Gdansk we stopped at Torun to walk through the Old town and have refreshments at Hotel Bulwar. The old town was very interesting and our guide told us the history of the leaning tower and other interesting places within the old Town. Copernicus house, gingerbread museum and shop, ruins of the old Teutonic castle, the number of cats depicted on buildings and roofs only to name a few. If travelling through Torun it would be of interest to do a tour of the Old Town with a guide.
