Wawel Cathedral, Krakow

4.6
Once the site of royal coronations, Wawel Cathedral represents one of Poland's most significant religious and architectural sites. Two previous buildings burned down here before the church was erected more than nine centuries ago. The present-day cathedral, a Gothic structure, features several chapels built in different architectural styles. As you enter, notice the chain hanging to the left of the main iron door. Made of prehistoric animal bones, this chain is known for having magical powers that ensure the continued presence of the cathedral. To learn more about the large collection of sarcophaguses and altarpieces, take a guided tour. • Very nice and different from what is used in cathedrals. Broader and more sumptuous still than it seems from outside. To highlight the different chapels with different styles. Better to go during the week that there are fewer people, it is free.

  • The cathedral is one of the most interesting buildings of the Wawel Castle. In its architecture several styles are used: Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque. It is the burial vault of several Polish kings. St. Stanislav is buried there. In one of the Pridelov was buried Yuzef Pilsudski, and 18 years ago next to him appeared another tombstone, here buried the President of Poland Lech Kaczynski and his wife, who died in a plane crash near Smolensk. We were on holiday-the day of the Constitution-and people went to these graves with constant flow. The cathedral itself is very large, there are many chapels and it can be viewed for a long time.

  • It is the Polish "Westminster Abbey", full of history and splendor. Climb up to the tower and go down to the royal crypt. Audio guides very useful if you don't have your own guide.
  • Stunningly beautiful old cathedral, rich both in decoration of interior and exterior, as much as in historical importance! Anyone visiting Krakow should visit this monument of huge importance and beauty!
