Trip Planner: Europe / Poland / Northern Poland / Pomerania Province / Gdansk / National Maritime Museum
The National Museum in Gdańsk, established in 1972 in Gdańsk, is one of the main branches of Poland's national museum system.HistoryIts main location is in the old late-Gothic Franciscan monastery, which has been used to house exhibits since the end of the 19th century. During that period it was known as Stadtmuseum, which held a sizeable collection of historical works of art. In 1884, the collection was enlarged with exhibits from another Gdańsk-based museum - Kunstgewerbemuseum when the two institutions merged. After the end of the Second World War, 65% of the main building of the museum was destroyed and much of the museum's collections were lost, including all the numismatic exhibits as well as works of art from the Far East. Also the library and some of the museum's records were lost or destroyed. The first post-war exhibition was opened in 1948 and the museum changed its name to "Pomeranian Museum in Gdańsk". In 1956, Hans Memling's masterpiece Last Judgment returned to Gdańsk as well as part of the collections of paintings and prints. Originally the museum was located in the Opatów Palace in Oliwa and constituted the enthnographic department of the museum. Since 1989, the palace houses the museum's collection of modern art.Our Gdansk trip planner makes visiting National Maritime Museum and other Gdansk attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.
National Maritime Museum Reviews
그러나 리뷰를 보지 안보길 잘했다는 생각이 든다. more »The Gdansk Maritime Museum on the banks of the Motlava River. It is located on the opposite side of the Old Town. The old gogchang building is a sight to besure. Although he did not see the view because he had a special interest in the ocean, the building shines along the river. However, i think it was good to see the review.
Bardzo mi się podobało. Wystawa jest świetnie zorganizowana, z elementami interaktywnymi, pięknymi makietami i przejrzystymi opisami. The exhibition is well organized, with interactive elements, beautiful maces and transparent descriptions. You can learn a lot about Gdansk, but also about all sorts of ships, port history and the daily life of seafarers. Time passes quickly. I recommend you buy a ticket immediately at the museum, ship Sołdek, Crane and ferry, you do not have to pass everything one day and it goes cheaper and motivates to visit everything-for me it was worth.
Fantastic museum. There is a lot of ancient naval things. You can read a lot about all kind of ships and people build them. A lot of different ship models from old to modern This museum is great place for visiting during your stay in Gdansk
Well designed considering it was not a purpose made building, with dissabled access on request. Staff could speak English and do have a vast knowledge of their area. Impressive collections ranging from the ancient historic period to modern era. Beautifully tied in to Polish history and their cultural influences from the rest of Europe. Many of the Items are genuine from the exhibits displayed. Definitely worth a visit and to walk along the river and Marina.
