Europejskie Centrum SolidarnoSci, Gdansk

4.7
#1 of 25 in Museums in Gdansk
Celebrating the bravery of the Polish solidarity movement, Europejskie Centrum SolidarnoSci includes exhibition halls, a theater, and impressive architecture. Reopened in 2014, the attraction's building is as much a reason to visit as the engaging exhibits. Designed to resemble a ship's hull, the structure pays tribute to its location in the shipyards. Inside the "ship's hull," historical exhibits tell the story of Poland's fight against Russia through videos, audio recordings, and documents accompanied by visuals and interactive displays. Visit the attraction's website for a calendar of upcoming events and to purchase tickets in advance. • It is worth even to come specially to Gdansk for this museum.) Huge Interactive Exposition: It took us about 4 hours to see everything (if not more). One of the main features-audioguides (there are in English, Polish, Russian and, it seems, in German): Listening to the story, fully immersed in the context of the museum (the history of the legendary Polish trade union movement "solidarity"). The museum is impressive even outside: the walls of the building are lined with old ships ' cartouches.

  • World Class Museum! This is truly one of the best museums I have ever had a chance to visit - both in terms of architecture and curation. Situated in a historic Gdańsk Shipyard - birthplace of Solidarity Movement - takes you through Poland’s workers journey to freedom and eventually fall of communism. An absolute must see if you are interested in the recent history of the country and entire region. Europe starts here!
  • A world class museum, fabulous exhibition. However please be careful when you use the cloak room downstairs! An employee of the cloak room, a man in his 50s with grey hair, wearing a black suit and museums leash, asked for PLN2 for a token. When I have asked for a refund handing the token over to another employee I was told they are free of charge! This is outrageous and needs to be addressed to the management. It cannot happen again! Tourists be advised to have appropriate coinage with you! Otherwise the exhibition is marvellous and worth a visit.
