Sillustani, Puno

4.5
#1 of 8 in Historic Sites in Puno
Must see · Cemetery · Ruin
Pay tribute to the long-fallen warriors of the Colla community at Sillustani, a pre-Incan burial ground perched on the shores of Lake Umayo. A series of funerary towers, some of which are up 12 m (39 ft) high, held the remains of Colla nobles, their families, and plenty of food and possessions to keep them comfortable in the afterlife. Admire the artisanship behind these impressive towers, which have stood since the 15th century. Take a guided tour to fully appreciate the significance of the area, as you'll struggle to find signposted information nearby.
