Winay Wayna, Machu Picchu

Must see · Ruin · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
One of the most impressive sites along the Inca Trail, the ruins of Winay Wayna give a good representation of daily life in the settlement. Clinging to the side of a steep hill, the ruins show the foundations of houses, remnants of staircases, and the bases of water fountains. Notice the agricultural terraces of previously cultivated land, which sit above and below the main ruins, and are now often grazed by wild llama. Nicknamed 'Little Machu Picchu', the well-preserved ruins add to the landscape, as the terraced fields form steps down the hillside. • Breathtaking! In your final steps towards Machu Picchu on the Inca Trail you will find this amazing city of Winay Wayna. It is surrounded by mountains and forest and seems like a place lost in time and space. Its terraces are impressive and very well-conserved and the local guides will explain the stories of the ruin. You'll indeed feel "Forever Young" and grateful that such beauty exists!
  • Went here as part of our 4 day 3 night Inca trail trek and it is absolutely breathtaking. It's quite a large site and amazing to explore.
