  • Walking through this church now a museum certainly can take you back to the past in Lima. This should not be missed.  more »
  • I do not tire of repeating that, both the Churches, Basilicas, Cathedrals, Monasterys, etc; possess unimaginable works of art. One always rejoices at seeing these images, biblical passages. And it also "discovers" the differences of cultures and their content. I mean that if one visits for example The Vatican, he sees a certain Italian culture in the figures or paintings; instead in Peru, I observe two different CHRISTS; one is the one we are used to seeing normally on many sides; and the other, as in this case, we see a Christ who, instead of having a "taparrabos", possesses a "chickens" that covers it. So the culture after the Inca and in the conquest of Christianity made a remarkable difference

  • An extraordinary experience, whether you are a devotee or not of the Catholic faith. Hire a bilingual guide right at the entrance. They work solely for tips, and are very knowledgeable.
  • In this church is where you would find the resting place of both St. Rosa of Lima and St. Martin de Porres, both of which are national icons. The tour includes a visit of two cloisters, one of the oldest libraries in the country, the crypt where St. Rosa is layed to rest, St. Martin's burial site, his original room, and a climb up to the steeple tower (which offers an amazing 360 of the city). Be aware that if u are with children they will not be allowed to climb the tower, and only visitors that pay the full adult price will be allowed the climb. The church itself keeps different hours as the museum/convent tour so I would suggest to check the times ahead of your visit. Also, if u suffer from vertigo you may have a difficult time with the climb up the tower.
