Get a taste of local culture at Mercado Central de San Pedro, where you can roam the stalls with freshly squeezed juices, San Pedro cacti, seafood, black corn, pig heads, and dried Llama fetuses, an offering to the Earth Goddess. See women in bright colored skirts and ponchos rolling wheelbarrows of tuna or carrying babies on their backs. Get up early and have a typical Cusquena breakfast, a portion of beef with potatoes and rice, at the cafeteria with rows of benches and huge pots and pans. Check out textiles woven by hand and colored with natural dyes, and try on hats made from alpaca wool. This giant warehouse, a short walk from the main plaza, stretches all the way towards the railway tracks. • It was a store opening when I passed in the morning in the market with the roof in the west of the old town, and it was lively. It is a market rich in local ingredients.

  • Great place to buy souvenirs or warm clothes. But be careful, if they say it is 100% pure alpaca... It is not. It is more like 25% alpaca. But what do you want to expect for around 10 bucks for a sweater. They keep warm and that's the important part. They offer different services as well. For example one guy sewed a whole of one of our backpacks for 5 Soles. They sell fresh fruits, meat, vegetables.
  • Great local market for tourist. They have everything a tourist need such as gift shops, tons of handcrafts goods, etc. I love the juice and the local foods here, I had the best avocado milk here with only 6PEN. A definite heaven for budget travelers.
