Sarcofagos de Karajia, Chachapoyas

Sarcofagos de Karajia highlights the coffins of the Chachapoyas culture. Found in in a ravine, the sarcophagi sit in the Amazonian Luya district. Drive up to the remote archaeological site and hike up to the face of the cliff where the ancient burial site stands. Observe the 2.5 m (8.2 ft) tall sarcophagi, made to look like human figures, most of them still well preserved. Bring suitable footwear for the steep hike and take time to experience the panoramic views of the green valley below.
