San Pedro Apostol de Andahuaylillas, Andahuaylillas

Must see · Architectural Building · Religious Site
Dubbed the Sistine Chapel of America and built in the 16th century, San Pedro Apostol de Andahuaylillas hides within a quaint village but is a sight to behold. Judging from the simple brick and adobe exterior, the structure appears to be just an unassuming church, but once you step inside its nickname becomes clear. Baroque frescoes line the walls of the church, each depicting a part of the region’s history or representing an important part of the culture. The ceilings showcase Mudejar-style paintings, which involved cane, straw, and mud mediums. Even the altar impresses visitors with its gold, silver, and mirrored surfaces throughout.
