Iglesia del Carmen, Panama City

#5 of 29 in Historic Sites in Panama
Church · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Admire the monumental gothic-style facade of Iglesia del Carmen, some of the most visually striking architecture in all of Panama City. An homage to the gothic architectural style of the Middle Ages, the first stone of the church wasn’t actually laid until 1947, with its inauguration finally taking place in July, 1953. Step inside and find ornate stained glass windows and an intricately decorated altar positioned amongst beautifully carved stone pillars. The two towers of this Roman Catholic church rise high into the heavens, said by believers to help elevate prayers to God. • Beautiful structure, a historically significant building. Easy to get to my Uber or Metro. Enjoyed walking around the building. Better view from across the street.  more »
