Arafat's Tomb, Ramallah

#3 of 15 in Things to do in Ramallah
Landmark · Tourist Spot
Visit Arafat's Tomb to learn about the hardships of recent history. Believing this is a temporary resting site for their leader, a symbolic rail track was put under the grave since Arafat asked to be buried in Jerusalem. Surrounded by water on three sides, the mausoleum is a modern piece of art in itself constructed from stone and glass with a symbolic surface of 11 m by 11 m (120 sq ft) that marks the date of his death. As Yasser Arafat was a well-respected and admired man, smiling or laughing during the visit is considered inappropriate.
