Visit the holy site of Milk Grotto, a shrine in a cave where it is believed Mary stopped to nurse baby Jesus, while trying to escape Herod’s soldiers. Supposedly, a drop of milk fell on the limestone rocks while she was breastfeeding, turning the cave a pearly white color. Today, a small 19th-century Franciscan chapel rises over the grotto, which was restored in 2007. Join the flock of devotees--Muslims and Christians alike--who flock to pay their respects in the shrine, with especially larged numbers of women who come to pray for fertility.
