Polaria, Tromso

3.1
#1 of 21 in Zoos & Aquariums in Norway
Aquarium · Zoo / Aquarium
The most northerly aquarium on the planet, Polaria dedicates its exhibits to the wildlife and ecosystems of Norway's most extreme reaches. Visit the facility, housed in a building designed to resemble ice sheets, and explore its multitude of Artic display tanks. Although the city of Tromso itself is northern, the aquarium offers a special focus on the Svalbard archipelago. Wander the many exhibits dedicated to cold-water creatures, including shoreline dwellers, and stop by the open enclosure to visit its contingent of bearded seals. Afterward, take a stroll through the Arctic walkway portion of the center, which boasts a collection of heavy equipment and gear used in polar exploration. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Tromso holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Polaria and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • To less room for the animals. Information were okay. But not 9,50 Euro worth it. We didn’t like it that much.  more »
  • Great experience! It is small but cozy! Seals are amazing! Don't expect too much. It is more like a seal aquarium then a generell one. So lovely and friendly stuff. Recommended!  more »

  • I love that you can pay abit more cash to go out and feed the seals! Did that once.. was one of the best days in my life! 5/5 would do it again.
  • We simply expected more for the entrance fee. It is very small, nothing special, except for the exterior the design is not worth mentioning and in my opinion missed opportunities. The average aquarium in the zoos all over the world that we have visited provides more information, is more interactive and shows much better what they want to tell. Here they had the perfect opportunity to really draw attention to the (global warming and pollution related) problems that are caused humans and to create awareness. And they have only succeeded very poorly in my opinion.
