  • We did the discover more cruise and did the early morning cruise first run of the day. This was fantastic as we took the breakfast buffet option and enjoyed a meal as we got underway. You have to eat ...  more »
  • We arrived at the observatory as part of the cruise taking place in the Fiord of Milford. It is an observatory that is located at a depth of 10 meters underwater, going down spiral staircase. While you can see fish in their usual area of existence and not inside an aquarium, what we have seen does not call attention in a special way. If we hadn't gone into it, we wouldn't have lost anything.

  • My husband and I went to Milford Discovery Centre & Underwater Observatory as part of an overnight cruise on Milford Sound, stopping there for 45 minutes in the morning after the cruise. This wasn't really long enough as there was lots of information in the centre we didn't get to read - if you are able to go for longer I would recommend it (though we did have the advantage of being in a small group - apparently it gets very busy at other times). The underwater observatory was fascinating - you get to see creatures like sea cucumbers and black coral (which looks like a beautiful underwater tree) that would usually be too deep for humans to observe but are at a shallower depth in Milford Sound due to the particular conditions here. We were given a commentary and guided tour of the observatory by Aske, who was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable especially considering he hadn't been working there that long. He answered lots of questions about things we saw in the observatory in great detail.
