Kashthamandap, Kathmandu

3.6
The city of Kathmandu takes its name from Kashthamandap, a three-story temple that, before the earthquake in 2015, stood as a three-story temple featuring a statue of Gorakhnath, an important medieval Hindu monk. According to local legend, the pagoda dates its origins to the 12th century and a single tree provided all the necessary building materials. Before the earthquake destroyed the temple, it was noteworthy for portraying a full image of Gorakhnath, rather than just footprints that usually represent the monk. Kathmandu plans to reconstruct the pagoda along with the rest of Durbar Square--information remains scattered, though, so search the Internet for the latest details. • Historical place/ world heritage site. Many temples. Great place for tourists and foreigners. Many places here amazing for photography. Many cultural celebrations and rituals throughout the year at this place and around.
  • It was made from wood completely. It has a great story. Even the name kathmandu is believed to have originated from it. It is in reconstruction phase as of now.
