We chose to book in this hostel because of the very good reviews on TripAdvisor and Booking.com. As already written by several guests, the hostel is quite far outside, but the city center Thamel is accessible by taxi or bus (15Rs/person, stop about 1 kilometer away). As other guests have also written, we were almost alone in the hostel. There were supposedly better times, but according to the operators they seem to be about a year ago. The water was basically cold and there were no working hot showers. None of this was a problem for us. The room was clean and the Wi-Fi was working. Breakfast is available for 2 per person. In this respect, we would still have given 3.5/5 stars. The hostel also has a travel agency and the transition is fluid, the 3 owners are the same. It became very problematic for us in this place, when we were interested in trekking and other agencies were cheaper. It was taken personally that we were considering booking with another agency and the mood was very limited. It wasn't even that cheap. After you have improved their offer, we booked the 14-day Guide + Transport package for the Annapurna Circuit for 380 dollars/ person and left the rest of our luggage in the accommodation. After we had to stop crossing the pass for health reasons, our guide went after us and left us after only 9 days to return to his hometown. We contacted the agency and felt confirmed and well taken care of at first. We were told that we had booked and paid for the guide for 14 days and that it was an inexcusable misconduct on the part of the guide. On WhatsApp we are literally told: "It is surprising as well as a shock for us [...] we can apologize from the bottom of our heart". We trust the Agency. The remaining 5 days we spent without a guide. When we got back to the hostel we were verbally confirmed that the agency saw the guide's behavior as "cheating", but when we say that we feel cheated for our money, we get no reaction to it. We ask whether the Agency does not feel financially responsible to us. She could eventually get the money back from the guide. A guide is currently costing 30 dollars per day. But they suddenly didn't want to offer them to us when booking at the beginning, because the profit rate was too low. The taxes are just so high, they told us. Only for this reason we were more or less forced to book the package, wei...
Simply the best! I highly recommend Budget Trekking if you are looking to trek in Nepal. It is run by a group of friends that are very passionate about trekking and have all done the treks many times.... more »
Unlike the name Budget Trekking suggests, the tours are not good value for your money. Try instead searching in Thamel for a package or guide. Comparing our all-inclusive trek with people on the trail doing the same route/number of days with other guides (same food and accommodation coverage), we paid nearly twice the average (prices listed on their site). On top of that the guide was not attentive or enthusiastic for the majority of the trip. He was unprofessional at times with how close he would come to us women and how he spoke of us to other people. Also know that it is easy to do independently and not necessary to even have a guide- following the trail was a no-brainer and the guide rarely added any valuable information or interaction. For reference I did the Tamang Heritage Trek.
Really exciting!! The resort that they took us, was fantastic. The activities were shocking, and the best of all, our guide is so generous with us. Thanks to him, we have a video to remember our experience in Chitwan.
