#5 of 11 in Historic Sites in Bhaktapur
Supposedly made from a single tree, Dattatreya Temple attracts visitors with its beautiful carvings and interesting architecture, with two Rajput wrestler statues guarding the entrance. Devotees come to worship the Dattatreya, a trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Look closely at the carvings and notice vivid sexual graphics and erotic decorations carved in the wood and the gilded metal. Entrance to the inside of the temple for non Hindus is forbidden, but souvenir shops and a museum can be found nearby. • Another lovely square, with plenty of repair work underway from the earthquake. It certainly doesn't detract from the overall beauty of the buildings.  more »
