Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Visit Sanda Muni Paya to see why many call it the world's largest book. Situated at the base of Mandalay hill, the site features scores of brilliant white stupas, each containing marble slabs with inscriptions of the Buddha's teachings--1,774 "pages" in all. The 19th-century pagoda houses an enormous iron statue of Buddha, entirely gilded. Bear in mind that you need to take off your shoes prior to entering here. Outside you'll find vendors with gifts and souvenirs. Plan to visit Sanda Muni Paya and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Mandalay attractions using our Mandalay trip planner.

  • This place is at the foot of Mandalay Hill near the northeast corner of Mandalay Palace. There are many tablets know as the World's biggest books. There are 4 entrances. But nothern entrance is locked and you can easily enter through the left doors. The following photo is taken near southern entrance when I visit there.
