Merzouga Desert, Merzouga

4.6
Venture out into the waves of sand at Merzouga Desert, one of the country's two Saharan ergs, or dunes created by the wind. The 50 km (31 mi) long and 5 km (3.1 mi) wide dunes can rise 350 m (1,148 ft) in places, with the undulating, barren landscape appearing like a moving golden sea. Berber camel caravans traipsing through the sand add to the iconic Saharan scenery. Many visitors arrange a Berber-led excursion into the desert, with an initial camel trek, followed by a night of traditional food and entertainment under the stars. • The other day, I remembered a story about Morocco with the person who accompanied me on a European tour. I went to JTB's "Travel Story", but i was told not to ride as much as possible, saying that it was dangerous for the tour guide to ride a camel, and to take a stroke if I got on it. But everyone was almost ignored, and 20 of the 22 people who wrote a single note rode the camel. In the same way, all the other people on the tour at JTB seemed to have walked in the desert. The camel shakes the passenger's body back and forth when it stands up and sits down, but it will be all right if it is careful. I think it's the role of the guide to pay attention to it. If you go too far, you won't know what to travel for. I'm sorry if it has been improved recently. By the way, "Travel Story" was very satisfying in terms of content (unlike others, i went to Essaouira).

  • The dunes of Merzouga are a sample of what one can expect from the desert. Nice walk, there are several camps in the dunes, with good infrastructure and very friendly staff!
