Portuguese Cistern draws visitors with its enchanting dance of dim lights reflected against the surface of the water. Originally built as a warehouse in 1514, this square underground chamber, which was later turned into a cistern, features double barrel vaults supported by 25 stone pillars. The cistern served as the filming location for several movies, including Orson Welles' "Othello." Today, the site hosts cultural events, such as concerts of Fado music. It is a beautiful place that could have become magical with a touch of creativity. Unfortunately that is not the case. Entrance paid (just symbolic) but once inside nothing impressive. The photo is attractive. The place lacks life inside. Managers can install TV/or audio displays that tell the story of the place which would give more magic and interest and marking to the visitView original
