Budva City Walls, Budva

#5 of 42 in Things to do in Budva
Landmark · Tourist Spot
Look down on the narrow, cobblestone streets of the Old Town from or gaze out of the holes in the stone and imagine what life here must have been like across the ages. Most of the existing walls with towers, embrasures, and fortified city gates were erected during Venetian rule, although archaeological evidence shows traces of Illyrian, ancient Greek, and Roman settlements. The walls also offer views of the sea and St. Nicholas island. The ramparts widen on the southern tip to form the citadel, a once-tremendous fortification that now is a venue for theater performances. • The walls and old town are interesting to wonder about. We were at an advantage as it was not busy due to a lack of other tourists.  more »
  • Definitely a smaller version of Dubrovnik! We really loved just wondering around the narrow streets and looking over its walls. So many cool sights, and so much history!  more »
