At Victory Memorial and Eternal Flame, a circle of five red, uncompromising, abstract pillars thrusts skyward, representing the five years of Moldovan involvement in World War II. A stark and somber Soviet-era memorial of open spaces delineated by hard marble, the memorial honors those fallen in battle. The eternal flame burns for the unknown soldiers of World War II, and also for those killed in the 1992 War of Transnistria. Walk among the dark graves of the fallen, watched over by the imposing, sculpted murals of soldiers above, and examine the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
