See the impressive centerpiece of an important archaeological site at Guachimontones, part of a World Heritage Site. Imagine the small temple that would have sat on top of the tiered pyramid, which today marks the center of a major site of Teuchitlan culture--a society that existed from around 300 BCE to 900 CE. The tiers of the pyramid possess a strict and striking circular form, and have been constructed from stone, clay, and lime. Archaeologist Phil Weigand discovered the pyramid in 1970, and full excavation began in 1996. A much smaller site, with much smaller pyramids, than others in Mexico. However, the site itself is very well maintained. There's also a lot less visitors, so it feels almost like you have the whole..... more »

From Guadalajara down town is a 40 minutes drive, the town is very nice whith a square with some restaurants and a nice church . The entrance charge is $30 mxn. and the tour guide charged us $200... more »

Interesting and unusual site! Worth a visit. Round pyramids at mysterious origin. It’s not like anything else in Mexico that I’ve seen. It can be hot out here and a bit of a climb, so may be best to avoid the middle of the day. Be sure to bring water & sun screen as there are no stores near by

Beautiful place, beautiful view 👌🏼 One of the many circular pyramids found in Mexico that have been around before the Aztecs and the Mayans. There is also a museum you can visit to learn about this ancient civilization. I recommend going in August or September (at the end of the rainy season) because everything is just so green and beautiful. Don’t forget water, a hat, sunscreen, wear comfortable clothes and shoes!
