#1 of 32 in Museums in Chiapas
Visit Templo de Santo Domingo, a grandiose church and former Dominican monastery. Built in the late 16th century, the church was named after the Spanish monk who founded the Dominican order. Admire the imposing Baroque-style building, restored fully in 1999, and explore the ornate interior, decorated with intricate gold leaf reliefs and figures. Inside the former convent, you can view exhibits on Oaxaca's pre-Hispanic history, with interesting archaeological artifacts. The monastery's courtyard now serves as a botanic garden featuring numerous native plants.
