The library was established in 1646, when Juan de Palafox y Mendoza, bishop of Puebla, donated 5,000 of his own books to the Colegio de San Juan, stipulating that they be accessible to everyone. The current building dates from 1773; today, it houses a collection of more than 41,000 books and manuscripts from the 15th to the 20th century. • it's 40 pesos to enter the library which is quite beautiful but all the signs are in Spanish. I believe you can get the audio guide in English but they did not have them when I went there. Also there's some contemporary art once you leave the library in the upstairs viewing galleries.
  • It is a huge library, a beautiful one. There is no entry fee to the place. And one can tour the entire place in 15 minutes. I did not find it much interesting.
