Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City

#2 of 844 in Museums in Mexico
Admire works from Mexican and international artists at Palacio de Bellas Artes. Construction on the domed palace begun in 1905, using art nouveau and neoclassical architectural styles, but was it delayed by sinking foundations and a political uprising. When the building was finally completed in the 1930s, a touch of art nouveau influence added to the melange of styles. Immerse yourself in Mexican fine culture at the impressive palace, which today houses several museums and galleries, as well as a theater. • It is a must to go to this place if you visit CDMX. They have free tours at 1pm but I'm not sure if it's every day. They tell the story of the place and let you visit the theater. It's really beautiful.

  • Although the building could not be realized according to the grandeur of the original project, it is the most emblematic art Deco building in Mexico City. Despite the imposing exterior, the interior shows refinements typical of that style. The large room has one of the glass curtains as a curtain, simply unmatched.

  • LOVE IT! Go here to see a beautiful Mexican landmark. I've seen countless operas in the theatre which has one of the most amazing stained glass ceilings and stage 'curtains' I've ever seen. Truly beautiful. Marble everywhere. If you're a tourist I would highly recommend seeing the ballet folklorico here as it is a good taste of many interesting Mexican cultures, and super exciting to watch. If you cannot, at least tour the museum with some great murals by incredible Mexican artists. Marvellous!
  • My favorite museum during my visit in Mexico. Loved the murals and the great diversity of Mexican art. The place is huge so I didn’t see everything. On Sunday the museum is free but it can get very crowded so you might prefer to pay and have less people. Is at the historic center so lots to see around.
