Chateau De Labourdonnais Reviews
Dit koloniaal huis kan je het beste vergelijken met een kasteel in Frankrijk. Een uitgebreid verhaal over de familie en de restauratie, een mooie maar kleine Tijn eromheen en daarnaast nog het verhaal... more »This colonial house is best compared to a castle in France. An extensive story about the family and the restoration, a beautiful but small one around it and also the story of the history of Mauritius about sugar cane. Afterwards a rumproeverij, nice and informative but the price may be friendlier.
Très beau château colonial, parc magnifique très bien entretenu avec du personnel toujours souriant (Comme partout à Maurice), dégustation des Rhums de Labourbonnais très bons mais biens chers !!!! more »Very nice colonial Castle, beautiful park very well maintained with staff always smiling (as everywhere in Mauritius), tasting of the Rafter of Labourbonnais very good but expensive goods!!!!
Well worth a visit. The mansion and the furniture have been beautifully restored and to walk around and through it, makes you wonder what it must have been like to live there. The story of the Wiehe family is an interesting one as well. From his first appointment as prefect over the island, to building a sugar factory which became a model of efficiency, the master of the house seems to have been a strict but intelligent and well intent man. Finally, the rum and fruit juice tasting in the restaurant, is a nice experience as well. You're allowed as many samples as you like from the wide variety of available rums, distilled right there on the same grounds. Just take care not to have too much of the rum if you're driving ;)
Absolutely fabulous place. The mansion is a delight and a lazy walk in the gardens is a must. Also, find stylish souvenirs at the shop. Finish your visit with some rum, juice and homemade jelly for a very sweet end of the experience.
