Fort Saint-Louis, Fort-de-France

#6 of 20 in Historic Sites in Martinique
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Protecting the city from invaders since 1638, Fort Saint-Louis treats you to views over Fort de France's bay as well as the city itself. Built from rock, the fort still serves as a naval base and remains listed as a historic site of France. Head inside to find old relics such as cannonballs, or outside to find iguanas surrounding the building. It is thought that they arrived from Guyana or neighboring countries. Visitors can head inside the fort only via a guided tour. Ask Inspirock to suggest an itinerary and make planning a trip to Fort-de-France fast, fun, and easy.
