Valletta Waterfront, Valletta

4.4
Originally built in the 18th century as an area for stores and warehouses, Valletta Waterfront serves as a good place to grab a bite to eat, shop, and simply enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of Malta along its historic harbor. After heavy bombing during World War II, the waterfront's reconstruction has led to a mix of old architecture alongside modern improvements. Notice the thick walls that you walk along--meant to protect the city from invaders--as well as the different colored doors of the buildings, which once symbolized what kind of goods were stored within: yellow for wheat, green for produce, blue for fish, and red for wine. Watch the luxury yachts and large cruise ships drift in and out of the harbor. Take a harbor cruise to learn more about the area's history. Put Valletta Waterfront and other Valletta attractions into our Valletta attractions planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Valetta is a fascinating city. From the waterfront to the cafes and watching the silversmiths at work. Always pick up a bit of silver for mum. If you travel to Malta would recommend using the local bu...  more »
  • Valletta is located on the tip of a narrow rocky peninsula, which is distinguished in the sea and surrounded by two bays. Therefore, from the height of the high coast there are wonderful views of the bays and suburbs of Valletta. From the south-east shore of the promenade you can see Birgu, Paola, Sengli and Kalkara. At the base of the peninsula is Floriana. From the northwest shore of the embankment are visible Sliema, the island of Manel, Ta-Shbich and Pieta. To get from Valletta to these suburbs, you can use not only buses, but also, which is much more convenient and interesting ferry crossings.

  • One of the most beautiful places we have been to. It has a beautiful backdrop considering it's a harbour. With lovely views across to the other three harbours. Magical.
  • People don't want to go to the dump and have a picnic, they want to go out to a beautiful place and enjoy their day. And so I think our job is to try to take the environment, take what the good Lord has given us, and expand upon it or enhance it, without destroying it.
