Originally built in the 18th century as an area for stores and warehouses, Valletta Waterfront serves as a good place to grab a bite to eat, shop, and simply enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of Malta along its historic harbor. After heavy bombing during World War II, the waterfront's reconstruction has led to a mix of old architecture alongside modern improvements. Notice the thick walls that you walk along--meant to protect the city from invaders--as well as the different colored doors of the buildings, which once symbolized what kind of goods were stored within: yellow for wheat, green for produce, blue for fish, and red for wine. Watch the luxury yachts and large cruise ships drift in and out of the harbor. Take a harbor cruise to learn more about the area's history. Put Valletta Waterfront and other Valletta attractions into our Valletta attractions planner, and watch your holiday take shape.
Valletta Waterfront reviews
This is a tourist trap not worth visiting. Whilst the buildings are pretty, the restaurants are trash. Comparably unfriendly and of rather low culinary value compared to some of the amazing... more »
Beautiful views over to Three Cities and dramatic skyline makes for fantastic photos. Make sure you go to the Upper Barrakka Gardens for spectacular views of the waterfront. more »
It was pretty dead with refurbishments happening. I can see it being nice when busier. Not exactly easy to get to, in relation to the rest of Valletta, but it has restaurants and an okay view of the bay. Quite commercial not a cultural centre but good spot for drinks and chill.
My visit to Malta was too short and unfortunately marked by rain while I was on an uncovered bus tour. I've had good experiences with Hop on Hop Offs but this wasn't one. Even though Malta is a rather small island, don't try see the entire island in one day. Pick two or three sites and enjoy.
