Learn about country's crucial role in World War II at Lascaris War Rooms, where you'll explore the historic complex of rooms and tunnels from which the defense of Malta was conducted. Located 46 m (150 ft) below the Upper Barraca Gardens, this was the site where some of the most famous battles of the Mediterranean were planned. With the end of WWII, the complex became the headquarters of the Royal Navy's Mediterranean Fleet and then a strategic communication center for NATO. Choose between a tour guide or an audio guide, both of which will explain the events that took place here. Learn about the German bombardment of the islands, Malta's critical role in defending North Africa, and why the nation was awarded the George Cross for bravery. • This was out 3rd time as they are always updating and adding on rooms! We came with family this time. Our guide James was amazing. He gave us an interesting in-depth story of the war rooms. Highly recommend this place and him! All money they make goes straight back into the war rooms as they are not supported by the government.
  • A very interesting tour. It is a place that is developing further and they will he adding to what is already quite impressive shortly. Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and bought to life an important and often ignored, part of WW2. I would love to visit again to see how it develops. Well worth a visit.
