Hike or sail to the isolated Monkey Beach to take advantage of its pristine white sands. The beach is named after the crab-eating macaque monkeys that share this area with green turtles, monitor lizards, and flying squirrels. Swim in the calm waters of the bay, relax on the soft sand, and have a picnic under the palm trees. Attracting few visitors, the remote bay is rarely crowded and doesn't feature food stalls and restaurants. Bring your own food and lots of drinking water, especially if you're planning to hike to and from the beach. Monkey Beach Reviews
Quite sad, right near the turtle sanctuary and the whole beach is littered with various plastic junk from tiny straws to bucket lids and rope strands. Poorly run national park. more »
We wlked the trail to monkey beach, 50% of the trail is steep and 50% of the trial is almost flat. It is nice walking through the jungle with the songs of birds. Before reaching the beach we saw a... more »
Monkey beach is in the Penang nature reserve. Some of the walks are closed at the moment - but for 100RM for 2 we took the boat there and back. Go early on weekends as it can get a little busy. It’s a lovely setting with a few basic beach cafes. Lazy boys cafe sold me cold coconuts. And the cafe next to them made us lunch. Facilities are basic but it’s a lovely spot. Our friends then did the walk from the beach up to the lighthouse. Take suntan cream/ towels and a few extra sandwiches. And take your your own litter back home with you to dispose of properly. Unfortunately there is a lot of litter behind the beach cafes. For some reason we paid for the private boat rides but there was no park entrance fee. I would be happy to pay a fee in order to ensure this lovely nature reserve remains pristine.
It's a nice lagoon beach. You can hire boat 🛥 for the way back if you hiking to get here too, or you just get a boat to get here if you really don't think hiking is something you wanna do. BTW, it's best to hire/pay for your return boat trip to the jetty @ entrance before you start your hiking. That way, you will not be waiting & worrying for an empty boat for your ride back.
