Learn all about precious metals at PG Gold Museum, where you can watch live demonstrations of the silver-pouring process and ask the guides about the history and significance of gold and silver mining. Admire and touch the bars of gold and silver, and view a 50kg (110lb) golden block. Observe the collection of gold coins from all around the world, or experience the process of panning for gold, keeping the low-karat pieces you find. You can also buy some golden souvenirs and trinkets here, or try the edible gold-plated petals. For travelers who use our world travel planner, George Town holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the PG Gold Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
PG Gold Museum Reviews
I felt cheated. Came in, Bought tickets told to wait 10 minutes. Went in and they straight away guided us through until the pouring demonstration which was only like a 5 minute show with no... more »
Its an eye opening experience to explore a mock - up mine with lots of educational information about the history of gold. The river gold mining experience was tiring yet fun, sifting through the... more »
For the price it's not too bad if you've nothing better to do. Lasts about 30 minutes if you're lucky, few photo ops but nothing spectacular. I feel they could have put some mini working sluicing machines or pretend mini drill equipment to make this a bit more of an interactive museum for both kids and adults. It's basically just a tour of some facts on the wall, display cabinets with coins and a quick pouring demonstration. Wouldn't go again but for a few ringgit it's something to tick of your trip to Georgetown.
If you are interested in the history of gold, all those kinds of stuffs, this might be good, however, in my opinion, the place was ordinary, nothing out there. I would suggest visiting other place, but if you want to buy some gold and/or jewelry, you may find this interesting. Also, don’t forget to compare the gold rates with other places as well.
