Tsimbazaza Zoo, Antananarivo
Get a glimpse of Madagascar's abundant wildlife at Tsimbazaza Zoo, a zoological and botanical garden. Built on what was once a sacred place where children were forbidden, the zoo removed the ancient taboo and now offers a wide variety of educational entertainment for the youngest. See the rare aye-aye--a small nocturnal lemur--giant tortoises, colorful birds, and strange reptiles. Also on site you'll find a small museum with animal skeletons, including those of extinct mega-vertebrates, that houses the bones of a 3 m (10 ft) tall elephant bird and its basketball-size egg shells, as well as those of pygmy hippos and giant lemurs. You can also tour some 80,000 plant specimens in Madagascar's largest herbarium here. Tsimbazaza Zoo is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Antananarivo Edition.

It is necessary to take it to the stop in the near the bank Societe Generale. Then you have to get off at the stop which is right at the entrance to the Park. It's 500 AR drive. The Park is not Super maintained if compared to European quality standards but it remains pleasant to wander, even just sit on a bench to enjoy the greenery. On the other hand, it is not clear whether the animals are treated well...
un endroit simple en centre ville mal entretenus c'est bien dommage mais qui permet de voir quelques animaux et plantes diverses ,un endroit à visiter more »a simple place in the city center poorly maintained it is a shame but that allows to see some animals and plants various, a place to visit
Enjoyed my visit to the Zoo/Botanical gardens with Malagasy friends. Didn't know what to expect but liked the relaxed atmosphere. Only disappointment for the 3 of us was was the cafe. Apart from the cafe a nice enjoyable and relaxing 2 hours. Would visit again when returning to Tana
A very rich zoo. Birds, reptiles, batracians, and most of all lemurs are kinds of species you can see. You can also find many interesting tropical plants there. Once you enter the gate, you'll feel like you are in a tropical jungle. You will forget that you are in the capital of Madagascar. Bonus : ther is a museum inside.
