Chateau de Vianden, Vianden

Transport yourself centuries back in time at Chateau de Vianden, a medieval fortress and palace dating back to the 14th century. Before you enter, notice the guard towers--one white and one black--flanking the main structure. Walk through a total of five gates, including a drawbridge and a descending grid. Afterward, you'll come to the little palace, where you can see the armory and Byzantine hall with its beautiful trefoil windows. Next, find the great palace, the largest section of the castle, featuring a knights' hall. Perhaps the most significant section, however, is the Romanesque-style chapel, which boasts two floors with an opening in the middle and balconies for the nobles. • From the viewpoint of the chair lift, walked to the castle (approx. 20 min). It is advisable to take an audio tour (€2). One per company is sufficient. The audio tour gives in every room about 2 minutes some interesting explanation, which makes the visit Verdiepender and more fun. Castle is beautiful, many halls and sufficient to view. It is not too long and not too short.

  • It's a beautiful place. I have never been to Luxemburg before, but the place is stunning and worth going a second time. If you go up the chair lift, you get a nice 5 min ride and a beautiful overview of the whole city and area. The castle is also a one of a kind and worth while seeing.
  • Its a beautiful castle with impressive restoration work. What is more beautiful is the journey to this castle. It can be reached by walk or via a cable cart. There are 21 chambers and takes around 2 hours for a trip inside the castle. Not recommended if you are traveling with elderly family members.
