Gediminas Castle Tower, Vilnius
Perched atop a hill on the site of a medieval castle, Gediminas Castle Tower today offers both sweeping views of Vilnius and represents one of the city's (and the country's) most enduring symbols. Originally a part of a 15th-century brick fortress, the tower's current iteration is the result of a reconstruction in 1930. Wander the path from the base of the hill to the tower and be rewarded with panoramic views of Vilnius' old and new areas, as well as the surrounding hills. Climb to the top of the structure for completely unobstructed views. Be sure to take a look at the small archaeological and historical exhibitions within, detailing the origins and history of the tower, as well as Lithuania's split from the Soviet Union in 1990. Gediminas Castle Tower Reviews
more »The location is very close to the old town. We had a hard time and had a nice view of the city of Villonis. The exhibits in the tower were related to the history of the tower and Villonis. Especially, the exhibition related to the human chain which led to independence from the Soviet Union was impressed. When the weather is nice, I think it will be a very good view. It is recommended that you go with shoes that are easy to walk.
Есть фуникулёр и брущаточная дорога для подъёма к башне. Внутри увлекательный музей с военными экспонатами и видеоинсталяцией. Вход 5€/чел. Мало людей на видовой. more »There is a funicular and a road for lifting to the tower. Inside is a fascinating museum with military exhibits and video installations. Entrance 5 €/person. Few people on the species.
Must Visit!!! Really quiet when we visited, we couldn't have asked for more! Nice walk up and there's a funicular railway if your not up for a steep climb. Beautiful views leading up to the tower. It is currently under construction and will be for a few more years, doesn't spoil the visit though. The tower itself is a museum and very interesting for those looking to gain some knowledge, bit of your just after the views head straight to the top (bear in mind there's a small entrance fee, so head to reception first) the climb is very steep with a winding stair case and no other options to ascend. Once up the views are a panoramic 360. Enjoy the views of the capital courtesy of Gediminas!
Such a wonderful place. Small and under construction, but it just captured me. Great view, incredible history, very old.... This is an absolute must see. Be prepared to walk the hill though, but well worth it
