Buddha Park, Vientiane

#1 of 6 in Parks in Vientiane
Observe more than 200 sacred statues and a giant 40 meter (131 ft) high image of the reclining Buddha at Buddha Park. Built in 1958 by a monk who studied both Hinduism and Buddhism, the park represents a blend of two religions and all their artistic embodiments of deities, demons, and animals. As you stroll across the exotic compound, observe statues of a Hindu god-king riding a three-headed elephant, a deity with twelve faces and six hands, and a four-armed divine being riding a horse. With our international travel planner, Vientiane attractions like Buddha Park can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Easy 1 hour comfortable bus ride (No.14) from the central bus stand with ticket K8000 each way. Have to say the park feels more like a theme park than a spiritual place. That said it was enjoyable...  more »
  • Budda Park is about 30 minutes out of town from Vientiane. Cost is 15,000 kip (A$2.50) for entry. Plenty of places to buy a drink and a yummy coconut ice cream. Heaps and heaps of Buddas there. All...  more »

  • Super fun! This was one of my favorite adventures in Asia. The statues are so cool. You feel like your on another planet when your walking around this place. I absolutely recommend checking it out. Going into the big round dome is something you have to do. I've never seen anything like it and probably neither have you. Try it
  • Nice place to visit if you have got a view hours time. Prefect for photo-savy tourists. Lots of statues of Buddha and from Buddhist stories. Don't forget to get inside the pumpkin and climb on top. On three levels they display hell, earth and heaven. I saw someone with an audio guide, but I'm not sure where I could have gotten one. Best time is probably in the morning as I'm the afternoon out can get quite hot. You can go there by bus. Line 14. It's leaving Vientiane from the Central Bus station behind the Morning Market Shopping mall. Takes about 30-45 minutes (I didn't look at the time properly) and costs 8000 Kip (12/2019). The bus also stops at the Thai Lao friendship bridge (border crossing) where most people get out. On the way back the bus passes the Buddha Park on the other side of the road (there is a sign). The bus might not stop if the driver didn't see anyone so better be close.
