Buddha Park, Vientiane

#1 of 6 in Parks in Vientiane
Park · Monument
Observe more than 200 sacred statues and a giant 40 meter (131 ft) high image of the reclining Buddha at Buddha Park. Built in 1958 by a monk who studied both Hinduism and Buddhism, the park represents a blend of two religions and all their artistic embodiments of deities, demons, and animals. As you stroll across the exotic compound, observe statues of a Hindu god-king riding a three-headed elephant, a deity with twelve faces and six hands, and a four-armed divine being riding a horse. • Rented a motorbike to drive about 30 min to the park. Spent about 30-45 minutes there. I loved all the buddha sculptures and climbing the cement building to see a great aerial view of the place. Right now they are building a beautiful entrance and a wharf along the river. There's a beautiful garden with tons of sunflowers for a good photo op. Really nice, would recommend, especially in a few months when everything is done.
  • We used public transport to reach here which was surprisingly comfortable. There is an entry fee for this park. A lot of Buddha and Hindu statues in the park. Best visited on an overcast day to avoid the heat. A good place to enjoy for a couple of hours. A lot of small shops and hawkers around selling quick bites or drinks. Though you may better off having your lunch or dinner in Vientiane city as this park is a little outside.
